Terra Madre is an international network of food producers, cooks, educators and students from 150 countries who are united by a common goal of global sustainability in food. The “food communities” of Terra Madre come together biennially to share innovative solutions and time-honored traditions for keeping small-scale agriculture and sustainable food production alive and well. They pride themselves on the fact that they are indeed providing not only a voice but much-needed visibility to the rural and artisan food producers who hold time-honored traditions and processes for producing food relative to their local environment and agricultural history.
This amazing global network raises awareness of the value of their work while committing to sustain their ability to work under the best conditions for the local community and planet. Upholding Slow Food's commitment to good, clean, and fair principles, the Terra Madre network serves as a medium for connecting producers from all over the world with the means to learn from each other, gather information-sharing tools, as well as the opportunities to see these collaborations come become fruitful.
Terra Madre's members work day by day to create a new economic and agricultural, food and cultural model. We are fortunate to benefit from current Terra Madre initiatives such as Taste Education, the Raw Milk and Cheese campaign, Slow Fish, as well as projects for Defending Biodiversity including the Ark of Taste, Presidia and Earth Markets.
This year, as in the years past, Slow Food San Francisco will continue it's staunch support of the Terra Madre effort by donate proceeds from this year's annual Food From the Heart event to send a delegate from CUESA to attend the next Terra Madre gathering in the Fall of 2010.
