Thank you and Seasons Greetings!

I would like to thank all the members who attended the first annual Slow Food San Francisco Crab Fest. I hope you all had as good as time as I did celebrating the long awaited and much anticipated opening of the San Francisco Crab season. I especially want to thank those of you who contributed to making this such a wonderful and successful event. To those of you who could not make it this year please look forward to next year’s event. As always, we will try to make it bigger and better.

A long, SLOW thank you goes to Nate Keller, executive chef at Google, and his amazing crew, for their hard work and delicious dishes. They truly went above and beyond for Slow Food San Francisco. I would also like to give another round of applause to our two visiting tenors, Martin Gonzales of Acqua al 2 and Daniel Hendrick, who came all the way from San Diego to entertain and support Slow Food San Francisco. They did such an outstanding job and truly made the evening a special one. Thanks also to la familia Girasole and Girasole Vineyards for donating some of the wine for the event. Finally, as always, we couldn’t have had this event run as smoothly without the help of our hardworking volunteers - especially those who stuck around for two days setting up, breaking down and running around for this event. Thank YOU!

As mentioned at the Crab dinner, I am working on some news projects for Slow Food San Francisco. Slow Food is not only about food but about taking time to enjoy life’s little pleasures, including music. I hope to create an opportunity through music and song to involve our city’s youth. Perhaps a small contest to create a rap song about Slow Food giving way to a big opportunity for children to learn more about Slow Food.

In the meantime, there are a few events underway so please stayed tuned. Up next: Food From the Heart, February 8th, 2008, Slow Food Beer Festival in March, and the long awaited Golden Glass 2008 to be held this year on Sunday, June 8th.

I would like to wish all of you a very happy holiday season and I look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Happy Holidays and Felice Anno Nuovo,
Lorenzo Scarpone
